Hedge Funds and other Global Institutions
What separates Hedgers from Speculators?
As Hedgers, Organizations
and Institutions are looking to protect their investments from large
fluctuations in the currencies with which they do business with.
As Speculators, The institutions and organizations are looking to profit from these fluctuations in the currency markets.
Institutional Funds are generally traded (Hedged) for the following reasons:
Watching what these big money organizations are buying, can sometimes be a good indicator, as they supposedly know what they are doing and for what purpose. Institutions are great indicators to follow.
Institutional Clients deal with volumes of trades that usually far exceed those of the retail side, and usually the pricing reflects that.
Futures Commission Merchants or FCM's, are Liquidity Provider companies engaging in the transfer of currency to foreign banks, are in essence trading on the Forex market When an advisor recommends a currency hedge, they are insuring themselves against a negative event. This doesn't prevent a negative event from happening, but if it does happen and you're properly hedged, the impact of the event is reduced. So, hedging a commodity in its own market or across markets, occurs almost everywhere, and we see it everyday.

The Forex Market
Spot FX Trading
The forex market impacts every financial instrument (bond, equity, property, etc) and any investments accessible to foreign investors. Forex rates play a major role in financing government deficits, equity ownership in companies and real-estate. Foreign exchange trading involves the Buy and Sell of 2 separate currency pairs: the currency in your pocket is literally stock in your country, and like a share, its value fluctuates on the international market providing knowledgeable traders with substantial opportunities for profit or loss.
